The new service is now live and available for notifying movements for all users. You can find out more, create an account or sign in here

There is no change for farmers if you currently report sheep, goat and deer movements using paper:

ABOUT LIVESTOCK INFORMATION SERVICE (LIS)

ARAMS has been replaced with a new service called the Livestock Information Service (LIS). Defra is investing in new services for England, recognising that this should make life easier for businesses and create better traceability insight for disease control and provide confidence for trade.

The devolved administrations in Scotland and Wales are doing likewise and we are working with them to ensure  connectivity between our different movement reporting services.

ARAMS has now closed. You will now need to use the new Livestock Information Service website. You must create an account to sign into the new service and start reporting. It’s quick and easy to do using your active CPH number (County Parish Holding).

  • To create your LIS account now, or sign in, please click here
  • You can find out how to create an account with LIS here
  • To contact us for help or support, please click here

Online reporting with LIS makes a dramatic difference to the quality and speed of making data available to decision-makers, enabling better livestock disease control nationally.

If you don’t already report your movements online, you can create an account on LIS today and see how easy it is to use and how it supports  business needs.

There will still be three ways for a farmer to report their livestock movements, either using farm management software, directly to the LIS website or using paper movement forms. You can find out more by clicking here

The information farmers provide, irrespective of the method is the same and it all ends up in the same system and is used in the same way.

FOR FARMERS

The CPH (County Parish Number) is a unique geographical reference for a farm or group of land parcels registered with the Animal Plant and Health Agency (APHA).  It is made up of a nine-digit number (for example 12/345/0001). More information on registering as a farmer can be found on the GOV.UK website https://www.gov.uk/

When you create an account with LIS using your CPH number, a registered email address will automatically appear. If this email address is incorrect, please contact the LIS Support team on 0844 573 0137 or email on support@livestockinformation.org.uk

When you first create an LIS account, you will need to verify that the CPH and email address you entered is yours.  This is an industry standard security check (when creating new online accounts), but you will only have to do this once when you first create your account.

The verification code will be sent to the email that was shown to you as you started the create account process, which you will need to copy into the verification dialogue box that appears on screen.

No.  You will need to create a new password to login to LIS.

Once you have created an LIS account and the service is live, you can log-in using either your farm management software or by using the LIS website here

When logging in for the first time (on any new device) you will be prompted to enter your email address and password.  If you are using farm management software, then you may also need to install software updates to be able to use LIS for the first time.  If you are unsure, then you should contact your farm management software provider.

Yes, there is a new LIS website and the data you need to enter will be the same as with ARAMS .  The LIS website works on all devices and will ‘auto fit’ to a tablet or a phone via a browser.

We have been working closely with farm management software providers, and most have made changes to their software to make sure it continues to work with LIS.

It is advisable that you check with your software provider that you have installed necessary software updates from them, so you can continue to report sheep movements.  You will also need to create an account on LIS.  You should contact your software provider if you have any technical problems or questions.

No. LIS will work on mobile and tablet devices.

The information that was provided to ARAMS has been safely and securely stored. This historical information won’t be available via the Livestock Information Service,  but can be requested from the LIS Support Team on 0844 573 0137 or email support@livestockinformation.org.uk

No. Movements reported using ARAMS will not be visible as it is starting its new service with a clean slate.

Once using LIS you will be able to view all movements you have reported.

If you need to view or make changes to ARAMS movement records, contact the LIS Support team on 0844 573 0137 or email us at support@livestockinformation.org.uk where the team can provide reports or make changes on your behalf.

if you want to see any entries, please contact the LIS Support team on 0844 573 0137 or email us at support@livestockinformation.org.uk and they will help you access your data.

Yes. You will need to complete a movement form, downloadable from our website here and save it to your computer. Attach the completed form in an email and send to our Support Team. Alternatively, you can take a picture of your completed form and attach it to an email (ensuring all information is complete and visible in the image). You will need to email your forms to support@livestockinformation.org.uk.

Remember it is easier and quicker to use the Livestock Information Service online to report movements. To create an account and start to use the service click here. If you need help creating an account or using the new service, you can find out more here.

FOR MARKETS

You will need to create an account with LIS.  You will need to have your active CPH number available to complete account creation.

To create an account, go here

Follow the ‘Create an account’ process found here

You need to create an account now, if you haven’t already done so.  Your market software provider will work with you to make sure your LIS account is setup and ready for you to use.

Create your account or sign in here

Yes.  We have been working closely with market software providers, who have made changes to their software to make sure it continues to work with LIS.

It is advisable that you check with your software provider that you have installed necessary software updates, so you can continue to report sheep movements.  You should contact your market software provider if you have any technical problems or questions.

No. LIS will not accept movement notifications that contain over-reads (i.e. where the number of animals reported are different to the number of tags and batch numbers).  If markets over read, they will need to correct before sending to LIS.  We are working with markets to minimise errors of this nature.

No, but you will need to re-enter your email address and password at least twice a year.  The reason for this is because your email address and password together generate a unique token for your login, that enables you to send movements to LIS.  Tokens expire after 180 days (from when you first login to use LIS), which is when you will need to re-enter your LIS email address and password.

Nothing changes, you will need to enter your CPH information as you do today.

No. Welsh markets report on EIDCymru and Scottish markets report on ScotEID regardless of where those sheep or goats come from.

Yes. The rules for the use of paper licenses are unchanged.

That would need to be notified as two movements from both locations.

FOR ABATTOIRS

Abattoirs are still required to report digitally, using either abattoir software or the LIS website.

The first thing you will need to do is create an account with LIS here

You can read more on abattoir reporting here

Yes, there is a new LIS website and the data you need to enter will be the same as you reported to ARAMS.  The LIS website works on all devices and will ‘auto fit’ to a tablet or a phone via a browser.

You can continue to report livestock movements using your abattoir software as you do today.  However, you will still have to create an account with LIS, you can do that here.

We have been working closely with third party software providers, who have made changes to their software to make sure it continues to work with LIS.  It is advisable that you check with your software provider that you have installed necessary software updates from them, so you can continue to report sheep, goat and deer movements.

Contact your third party software provider if you have any technical problems or questions.

Any movements from that week (or before) that have not been confirmed, should be reported as full ON movements in LIS as soon as possible.

Abattoirs continuing to use software to send notifications to LIS will see little change, other than having to create an account on LIS to get started.  The majority of abattoirs who used the ARAMS website will just need to create an account with LIS and then start using the new LIS website.

If you are an abattoir that uses software today, but the software no longer works with LIS, then you should use the LIS website to report your livestock movements.

The key change for Collection Centre website users is they can no longer select a list of ON movements to create a single OFF move.  The OFF move will need to be reported as a movement, uploading the relevant tags individually.

FOR AGENTS

Not initially. We are developing the capability for agents to do that as part of our ongoing development programme or work. For now, agents will need to log in using a separate login for each customer CPH.

Defra Policies and Regulations

No. Those reporting sheep, goat and deer movements will still need to provide the same information to Livestock Information Service (LIS) as was previously provided to ARAMS. For more information please visit the GOV.UK website here

Yes, you can still complete the paper movement forms:

  • Please use the paper movement form  LIS-1 to notify sheep and goats
  • Please use the paper movement form LIS-2 to notify deer
  • If you need to add additional animals, please use LIS-S

Please send to: Livestock Information Service, PO Box 6299, Milton Keynes, MK10 1ZQ

Yes. They will need to sign in to LIS on behalf of the business for which they’re working here.

The Livestock Information Service (LIS) is a statutory livestock movement service. Those who are legally responsible for reporting sheep, goat or deer movements will either need to use the new LIS, continue to report movements on paper or report movements via farm management software.

Rules haven’t changed and movements need to be reported within 3 days.  If there are delays as a result of LIS, that will be taken into consideration in any future action.

LIS has been comprehensively tested for all known scenarios with livestock farmers, markets, abattoirs and software providers to ensure that it works in those situations. That said, we recognise that digital service launches are likely to have teething troubles and we have a support team is place to deal with any unforeseen issues.

Reporting

CSV files simply need to be uploaded as a single column list of tag numbers.
