Ready to join the Livestock Information Service? On this page, you’ll
find everything you need to register as a keeper, create your account,
and start recording your sheep, goat and deer movements online.
Follow the steps below to get started quickly and easily.

Step-by-step guides

The Livestock Information Service (LIS) enables compliant movement recording of sheep, goat and deer in England. To be able to access LIS you will need to create an account. Your LIS account will enable you to record your movements digitally, record tag applications and keep an online holding register.

 

Follow this step by step guide to get started with creating your LIS account.

1. How to register as a keeper

Before you can use the Livestock Information Service (LIS), you must first be registered as a Keeper of livestock and obtain a County Parish Holding (CPH) number.

2. How to create an account

Read our guidance on creating your LIS account to guide you through the process.

Creating your account

Before you create your account you will need to have your County Parish Holding (CPH) number and email address to hand. To begin creating your Livestock Information Service (LIS) account, you will need to visit the LIS homepage
 
On the LIS homepage, click Create account / sign in.

1: Verify CPH Number

On the Verify CPH number page.
Enter your 9 digit CPH number in the Please enter your CPH field.
Click Verify CPH Number.
 

(i)
You must enter the forward slashes within your CPH number. e.g. 12/345/6789.

2: Confirm your email address

You will see a partially masked email address.
If you recognise the email address, click the I can confirm, this is my email address checkbox.
After clicking the checkbox, click Continue.

3: Verify your email address

Click Send verification code.
An email containing a 6 digit verification code will shortly arrive in your inbox.
If you do not receive the email please check your spam and junk folders.
After receiving your verification code.
Enter the 6 digit code into the Verification code field.
Click Verify code to complete your email verification.

Please do not close your browser as you will need to return to LIS to enter your code and continue with creating your account. If the email does not arrive after 2 minutes, please click Send new code. If the email remains undelivered, please contact support on 03300 416 577 or email support@livestockinformation.org.uk

4: Create a password for your LIS account.

Enter a unique password into the Create password field.
Your password must be between 8 and 16 characters long.
Your password must include at least 3 out of 4 of the following password rules:

  • Lowercase character
  • Uppercase character
  • Digit (0-9)
  • One or more of the following symbols: @ # $ % ^ & * – _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , ? / ` ~ “ ( ) ; .

 
Once you have create your password, re-enter the password in the Confirm password field.
Click Create account to finish creating your account.
 

You have now successfully created your LIS account and will be automatically signed in to your account.

Creating your account: Troubleshooting

Below you will find a list of problems that keepers have found when trying to create their accounts. If you encounter one of these problems when creating your account, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our support team, who will help you to resolve your problem.
 

  • County Parish Holding (CPH) number not recognised – Please check the CPH entered matches your records, and make sure to enter all slashes included in your CPH.

 

  • Email address not recognised – Your CPH has been associated with an email address, likely an email that was used when registering as a keeper of livestock and obtaining your CPH. If you no longer have access to this email address, or simply do not recognise it, please contact our support team.

 

  • No email associated with your CPH – You must contact our support team in order to set up your account. Please ensure you have access to an email address before contacting support.

 

  • Verification code email not received – Please check your spam and junk folder as the email may take a few minutes to arrive. If you do not receive the email, please click Send new code. If you have tried to send a new code, and it has still not arrived, please reach out to our support team.

 

  • One or more of your CPHs are not showing on your account – Please reach out to our support team who will help you to link all your CPHs to one account.

3. How to sign in and out of your account

Read our guidance on signing in and out of LIS account to guide you through the process.
  • Signing into your account

    Once you have created your Livestock Information Service (LIS) account, you will be able to sign in.
    To Sign in to your LIS account, you will need to visit the LIS homepage
     
    On the LIS homepage, click Create account / Sign in.
    On the Sign in page.
    Enter your email address in the Sign in name field.
    Enter your password in the password field.
    Click Sign in.
     

    You will now be signed in to you LIS account.
  • Logging out of your account

    To keep your account secure, you should sign out of your account once you have completed your activities on LIS. To sign out of your account:
     

    • Click your name at the top right of the LIS webpage.
    • Then click Logout.

     

    You will now be securely signed out of your account.

    To keep your account secure, you will automatically be signed out of your account after 30 minutes of inactivity.

4. How to reset your password

  • Resetting your password

    If you are unable to sign in to your account due to forgetting your password, you can reset your password to recover your account. To reset your password for your LIS account, you will need to visit the LIS homepage
     
    On the LIS homepage, click Create account / sign in.
    On the Sign in page, click the Forgot your password?

    1: Verify your email address

     
    On the Reset password page.
     
    Enter your email address associated with your account in the Email Address field.
    Click Send verification code.
     
    An email containing a 6 digit verification code will shortly arrive in your inbox.
    If you do not receive the email please check your spam and junk folders.
     
    After receiving your verification code.
    Enter the 6 digit code into the Verification code field.
    Click Verify code to complete your email verification.
    Click Continue to progress to the next step.

If the email does not arrive after 2 minutes, please click Send new code. If the email remains undelivered, please contact support on 03300 416 577 or email support@livestockinformation.org.uk

    2: Create a new password

     
    You must now create a new password for your LIS account.
    Enter a unique password into the New Password field.
    Your password must be between 8 and 16 characters long.
    Your password must include at least 3 out of 4 of the following password rules:
     

    • Lowercase character
    • Uppercase character
    • Digit (0-9)
    • One or more of the following symbols: @ # $ % ^ & * – _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , ? / ` ~ “ ( ) ; .

     
    Once you have create your password, re-enter your password in the Confirm New Password field.
    Click Continue to finish resetting your password.
     

    You have now successfully reset your LIS password and will be automatically signed in to your account.
