Livestock Information Ltd (LI Ltd) are delighted to confirm the launch of a new archive database and Power BI reports to replace the legacy Cattle Ear Tag Allocation System (CETAS) owned by Defra. This follows the delivery of a similar archive database replacing the Sheep & Goat Ear Tag Allocation System (S&G ETAS) in July this year.
The two new modernised databases, which are now part of the Livestock Information data warehouse, will allow for the outdated systems to be decommissioned, enabling cost savings of close to half a million pounds for Defra.
The LUIS was established by LI Ltd in 2022, replacing the Ear Tag Allocation Systems that were initially introduced in 1994. LUIS is now the official government service responsible for allocating the unique identification codes for all sheep and goat, and cattle ear tags (both electronic and non-electronic) and electronic boluses in England, Scotland and Wales.
To support traceability and disease control in Great Britain, livestock need to be officially identified by a unique number showing; country of origin, flock or herd mark and location (holding number).
The legacy data from the two retired systems has been moved to the two new databases, enabling users from across Defra, Local Authorities and Devolved administrations to access historic tagging information as required.
