Sheep, Goat & Deer Movements

Welcome to the Livestock Information Service (LIS) for sheep, goat and deer. LIS for sheep was launched in March 2022, replacing the old ARAMS traceability service. It has provided a monumental step towards increasing digital movement reporting and enhancing data quality to support disease control. The service has been developed in partnership between the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), Livestock Information Ltd, and alongside industry. Despite being a digital first system which integrates with software used by markets, abattoirs, and some farmers, LIS also supports paper movement licenses used throughout the supply chain.

Timely and accurate movement records on LIS enhances traceability and will support confidence in the health status of your livestock. The free electronic holding register will also make your record keeping much easier.

Digital reporting improves the accuracy of livestock movement data to support decision making and help reduce the spread of disease.

Online movements are recorded much quicker and efficiently than submissions of paper forms, which improves the speed and accuracy of the movement data.

Reporting your moves via LIS supports export trade opportunities. Your vet can also record their attestation of their visits digitally on LIS.

Online reporting via LIS helps to better inform agencies, government and industry to improve disease surveillance and control.

Things you need to know:
  • The law and guidance around sheep ID, record-keeping and movement reporting has not changed. For more information visit the GOV.UK pages
  • If you were previously using the ARAMS website, you now need to create an account with LIS or use the paper movement forms using the links below on the page
  • Markets must continue to report movements onto their premises and off their premises digitally
  • Abattoirs will still be required to confirm movements onto their premises digitally
  • If you report using farm management software, you will need to create a new account with LIS and continue using your software as before

When completing a movement form, please ensure it is an up to date version of the form which contains an area to record the Vet Attestation Number (VAN). For those filling in the form digitally, please disregard the instructions about completing the forms manually.
 
Please note: It’s important that you use the correct postage, when returning movement documents via post. Without the right amount of postage, there’s a risk that we may not receive the items, or that they are delayed. We do not accept underpaid postage as a reason for late movement reporting. Alternatively, you can report your movement online using the online service.
